What is an eye emergency?

An urgent or emergency eye problem is any eye condition of recent onset which is distressing, causing pain or is affecting your vision. Symptoms can include:

  • sudden pain in or around the eye

  • sudden changes in vision

  • sudden vision loss

  • sudden double vision

  • distorted vision

  • new flashes or floaters

  • sensitivity to bright lights

  • injury or trauma to the eye

What to do next

If you think you have a problem requiring urgent attention during our usual opening hours, please contact your nearest Jackson & Co practice for specialist advice.

When you contact us, a member of our team will ask you a series of triage questions. You will then be contacted by an Optometrist or an Optician who will discuss your symptoms and provide you with tailored advice.

Urgent Eye Care

Dependent upon your symptoms we may suggest one of a few options:

  • book a private Ophthalmic Investigation appointment

  • book a routine eye examination

  • attend A&E

  • contact NHS 111
